Yoga with Meditation
Grow, discover, and find balance
Suan Sati hosts this 6-day yoga and meditation retreat in Chiang Mai from October to February. The retreat features twice-daily yoga and meditation sessions, daily workshops on a diverse and ever-changing range of topics, and plenty of time to relax and unwind. This yoga retreat is focused on bringing you into a deeper awareness of your body, mind, and heart. From this place of deep connection, you may find that your daily actions naturally begin to align with your lifeβs intentions. A yoga retreat at Suan Sati will bring you deeper into your authentic self in an open-hearted, fun way. There, you will be supported by a community of diverse yet like-minded people dedicated to self-discovery.
Will Hardy
Will founded Suan Sati as a lifestyle that would allow himself and others to live the practice and not only visit it. Buddhist meditation, yoga, and permaculture are integral parts of his path, and the opportunity and responsibility to share these things with others in a community setting led him to take on this project. Will is always on site tending the gardens, leading meditation, and sneaking bananas, but he always has time for a chat and a laugh with new friends.
Lisa Hardy
For Lisa, yoga is practicing body awareness and connecting with the deeper self. Yoga opened up a whole new world for her; a world of transformation, acceptance, connection, and the direct knowledge of a higher power, without having to label or define it. One key point for her that leads to a healthy, balanced, and holistic lifestyle is the certainty that there is a vital force within and around our body that keeps us alive, constantly flowing. Every breath, every heartbeat deserves to be honored, on and off the mat. She has completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training in Goa, India

Our food philosophy is simple: We only serve fresh, whole foods, plant-based (vegan) meals prepared with mostly organic vegetables sourced locally or grown in our garden. Itβs refreshing to have control over exactly what goes into our food and into our bodies, and we invite you to peek into our open air kitchen to see the process. We minimize our use of processed foods, preferring to make most things by hand, the traditional way. This takes a little bit more time, but it adds a LOT of extra love to the food that we prepare, and you can taste the difference.
Our menu is always changing, but you can expect a typical breakfast to include a βmake your ownβ breakfast bowl of locally grown seasonal fresh fruit, chia seed pudding, and soaked oatmeal packed with an assortment of nutrient dense superfoods like chia seeds, cashews, goji berries, flaxseed, psyllium husk, muesli, and coconut milk. All this and locally grown gourmet coffee and tea to make sure that youβre wide awake after that deep savasana. Lunch at Suan Sati is a light affair, with a salad bar, raw and cooked Thai dishes, soups, and the occasional dessert. Dinners feature plenty of Thai food like stir fry and curry, Northern Thai delicacies, fusion favorites, and some special surprises. A constantly rotating menu ensures that you never want to miss what our chef is whipping up.
If you have any specific food allergies or concerns, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you. We are familiar with common food allergies and gluten intolerance, so book with confidence knowing that our chef knows how to cook for you.
Meditation and Yoga Program
You will practice breath awareness (Anapanasati) as a meditation practice, but retreat participants are welcome to practice in their own personal style that suits them. Simple, grounded guidance and spiritual teachings are offered to support this meditation practice and also the practice of Life.
For yoga, generally, your morning practice is dynamic and invigorating, varying between Hatha and Vinyasa with other elements mixed in. Your afternoon practice is generally a gentle, slow flow, Restorative, or Yin style designed to be meditative and balance the morning class. Beginner yogis, as well as experienced practitioners, are welcome! The teaching style integrates all students in multi-level classes. Teachers will offer options for those with injuries and limitations, and also for those who want to build a fire while taking their practice to the next level.
It is important to note that you will spend more time on yoga than on meditation and that this retreat is not a replacement for a dedicated silent meditation retreat. Beginner meditators are warmly welcomed here; however, please be advised that meditation success is not guaranteed in 6 short days!
Digital Detox
While on your retreat, you have a special opportunity to do a digital detox. This is a unique chance to move your attention away from the outer world and more toward your inner world. The detox allows you to connect deeper with yourself, the other participants, and the retreat program. While some may have initial resistance to being βdisconnectedβ for a few short days, the overwhelming feedback at the end of the retreat is an appreciation for the detox. If you have an urgent need to connect, staff can give you a short hotspot. They understand that some people have family issues that require attention or other urgent business. They just ask that any device usage be done away from other guests so as not to distract them from their digital detox.
Daily workshops and activities
Each day, Suan Sati offers workshops on topics such as alignment, philosophy, bodywork, pranayama, connection, kirtan, and movement/dance.
Guided discussions and journaling
Each morning, guests will be invited to participate in a group discussion and journaling prompts to check in with themselves and to process their journey.
Sample of the daily schedule
Suan Sati has intuitively designed a schedule that allows ample time to connect with a variety of engaging classes and workshops, while also building in time to reflect and relax alone as needed. We ask that all guests commit to attending every morning and afternoon yoga and meditation session. Outside of that, the rest of the schedule is optional. Let your heart guide you to the workshops, hammocks, or long walks alone that make your retreat experience exactly what you need.
