Andrea Santos Richardson
Andrea is the co-founder and course director of Shambhala Yoga School — a dream she carried for many years before bringing it to life together with Ronny. Today, she is one of the people behind the heart, vision and day-to-day life of the school. Andrea's yoga journey began in 2008 after a transformative experience in Thailand, leading her to study Thai massage and complete her first Hatha yoga teacher training. Since then, she has continued to explore and study different approaches to yoga and holistic wellbeing, including Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, Restorative, Somatic and Trauma-Informed yoga, as well as Prenatal and Ashtanga yoga, Ayurveda, sound healing and Bhakti yoga.
Sylvi Kühn
Sylvi first stepped onto a yoga mat in 2019 and quickly discovered that yoga was going to become a big part of her life. What started as curiosity soon turned into a deep passion, taking her all the way to India, where she completed her first 200-hour yoga teacher training. Sylvi’s classes are playful, energetic and full of life. She loves bringing something different to the mat, encouraging students to explore, experiment and try things they may not have expected from a yoga class. Her teaching can be strong and dynamic, gentle and grounding, but there is always room for curiosity, movement and a good laugh. For Sylvi, yoga is all about balance — between effort and release, challenge and play, and taking the practice seriously without taking yourself too seriously.
Maya Lindvall
Originally from Sweden, Maya was introduced to yoga and Qigong by her mother from an early age. In 2019, she returned to yoga and quickly felt a deep sense of connection with the practice. She completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training at Shambhala, beginning a journey that would become an important part of her life. Maya brings together the strength and discipline of Ashtanga, the quieter depth of Yin yoga and her trauma-informed approach to teaching. She is known for her grounded presence, genuine care and ability to make students feel seen and supported while encouraging them to discover their own confidence and voice as teachers.

During your training, Shambhala becomes more than a place where you practice yoga. You live at the school, practice there, learn there and share everyday life with the people around you.
The rooms are comfortable and welcoming, with accommodation options to suit different preferences and budgets. All the rooms have their own bathroom, shared only with the people staying in your room — not with the whole school.
With accommodation right at the school, your yoga practice, learning and everyday life naturally become part of the same experience. You can walk from your room to the shala, spend time in the garden, take a swim between sessions or simply find a quiet space to rest and recharge.
You’ll also have access to a washing machine, shower towels, a hairdryer in every room, and the sauna.
During the winter months, Shambhala Yoga School offers special sauna evenings — a lovely way to unwind after a day of practice.
Shared Triple Room with Patio
A comfortable shared room with three single beds, private en-suite bathroom, Wi-Fi, and a private patio.
This room has a more sheltered orientation and receives less direct sunlight, so it can feel cooler during the winter months. If you prefer a brighter, warmer room, this triple room near the shala may be a better choice.
Shared Triple Room
A bright and comfortable shared room with three single beds, private en-suite bathroom, Wi-Fi, and towels.
Located close to the yoga shala, it receives more natural sunlight and has a warmer feel — a lovely choice if you enjoy bright spaces and being close to the heart of the school.
Shared Double Room with Terrace
A comfortable shared room with two single beds, private en-suite bathroom, Wi-Fi and towels.
The highlight is your private terrace, offering a beautiful outdoor space to relax and enjoy the mountain and ocean views.
Single Room
A cosy private room with a single bed, Wi-Fi, and towels, offering a little more privacy and your own space to rest after a day of practice.
The room has access to a terrace with beautiful views towards the Atlantic Ocean. The bathroom is shared with one other person.
Shambhala Yoga School believes that some of the most beautiful moments are the simple ones you share with others. Food is part of that experience at Shambhala. The spacious kitchen and shared dining areas naturally become places to connect, talk, laugh, and enjoy time together.
Shambhala Yoga School carefully chooses fresh, sattvic vegetarian ingredients, with a focus on seasonal and locally sourced produce whenever possible. They love supporting local farmers and bringing the flavours of Tenerife into your everyday life at Shambhala. They also grow some of their own produce in their garden, including delicious Canarian bananas.
Fresh ingredients are provided throughout your training, giving you the freedom to prepare nourishing meals and enjoy them together with your group.
Vegan and gluten-free options can be accommodated, as well as other dietary requirements and allergies. Just let them know in advance so they can make sure the ingredients provided are suitable for you.
Food is not just about nourishment. It is another opportunity to slow down, share, connect, and feel at home.
Practise in the morning, learn throughout the day and have time to breathe, explore and enjoy the island around your training.
Why only 9 students?
Shambhala Yoga School keeps every 200-hour training to a maximum of 9 students, with 2 teachers throughout the course. This gives you space to ask questions, receive individual feedback, practise teaching, and learn through real experience. Your teachers get to know you and your practice. They can notice your strengths, help you through challenges, and guide you as you develop your own way of teaching. For them, a small group isn’t simply about having fewer students. It’s about having more space to learn.
Learn with the people behind the school
There is something different about learning in a school where the people who created it are also the people who are there with you throughout your training.
At Shambhala, the founders are actively involved in the courses — teaching lessons, sharing their experience, observing your practice, answering your questions and being part of everyday life at the school. They are personally invested in the experience you have here. They want to know you, understand how you learn, and be there to support you throughout the journey. Because when you spend 15 days learning together, relationships matter.
Depth takes time
There is only so much you can meaningfully learn, practice, and integrate within a limited amount of time. A teacher training isn’t simply about how many subjects, techniques, or certificates can fit into a program. It’s about having enough time to understand, practice, ask questions, make mistakes, receive feedback, and let the learning become part of you.
Shambhala would rather give you the time and attention to truly experience what you are learning than fill your training with more and more material just to give you a longer list of certificates. For them, becoming a yoga teacher is not about collecting knowledge. It’s about developing understanding.
Your teachers are part of your journey
A yoga teacher training is shaped not only by what you learn, but by who you learn from.
At Shambhala, you are guided by experienced teachers who are genuinely involved in your learning. With a maximum of 9 students and 2 teachers throughout your training, there is time to ask questions, receive personal feedback, and be supported as you grow.
Because the groups are small, the teaching can also respond to the people who are actually in the room. Your teachers can observe your practice closely, offer adjustments more than once, notice how you are developing, and adapt explanations, examples and teaching to the needs of the group. Every training is a little different because every group is different.
The teachers bring different experiences, perspectives and areas of knowledge to the training, while sharing the same approach: teaching with presence, care, professionalism and respect for each student’s journey.
They want you to leave with more than a certificate. They want you to leave feeling more confident in your practice, more comfortable teaching, and more connected to your own voice as a yoga teacher.
The 200-hour training is built around a strong foundation in Hatha and Vinyasa yoga, while giving you the opportunity to experience different yoga practices from the inside. They believe that becoming a yoga teacher is not only about learning information. It is about practicing, observing, asking questions, receiving feedback, and experiencing the teachings for yourself.
Learning without exams
There are no grades, memorization tests or final exams at Shambhala. Throughout your training, you learn by practising, teaching, observing and receiving feedback. Your teachers are there to guide you throughout the process, rather than waiting until the end to assess what you have learned.
For them, learning yoga is not about remembering the right answers for a test. It is about understanding, experiencing and being able to apply what you have learned.
Hatha Yoga
Develop a strong foundation in Hatha yoga, including alignment, breath, stability, awareness, and mindful movement. You will learn the principles and teaching skills needed to confidently guide Hatha yoga classes.
Vinyasa Yoga
Learn how to create intelligent, purposeful sequences that connect movement and breath. You will develop the skills to plan, demonstrate, and teach Vinyasa classes with clarity and confidence.
Anatomy and Physiology
Develop a practical understanding of anatomy and physiology for yoga and how the body responds to movement and different postures. Learn to observe individual differences and offer appropriate modifications and variations to support different students.
Yoga Philosophy and Humanities
Explore the roots, history, and philosophy of yoga and discover how these teachings can extend beyond the yoga mat. You explore subjects including the Yoga Sutras, ethics, chakras, koshas, mudras, and the yogic approach to everyday life.
Teaching Methodology
Develop the practical skills needed to become a confident yoga teacher. Learn about sequencing, class planning, verbal cues, demonstration, observation, adjustments, communication, and creating a safe and supportive space for your students.
Pranayama
Explore traditional pranayama practices and understand how conscious breathing can influence the body, mind, and energy. You will develop your own practice while learning how to confidently and safely guide pranayama techniques for your students.
Meditation
Explore different approaches to meditation and develop a personal practice rooted in awareness, concentration, and inner observation. You will also learn how to guide meditation practices, creating a clear and supportive experience for your students.
Experiencing Different Yoga Practices
Throughout the training, you will also experience different approaches to yoga, including Yin yoga, Ashtanga yoga, Partner yoga and yoga Nidra. These are not separate teaching certifications. They are part of your experience as a yoga student and future teacher. By experiencing different practices yourself, you can feel the differences between them — how they move, how they feel in the body, how they influence the mind and what each practice has to offer.
Sound Bath
Experience the vibrational and meditative qualities of sound through a guided sound bath, offering another way to explore relaxation, awareness, and deep rest.
Learning through experience
Shambhala believes that yoga teaching is learned through more than information alone. You need to feel the practice in your own body. You need to try teaching, receive feedback and learn from the experience. Because becoming a yoga teacher isn’t just about knowing what to teach. It’s about experiencing yoga deeply enough to share it with others.
This 200-hour training is a 15-day immersive experience combining daily yoga practice with teaching methodology, anatomy, philosophy, meditation and pranayama. Each day gives you time to practise, learn to teach, receive personal feedback, and connect with your group. There is also space for self-study, rest and enjoying Tenerife, with Saturday afternoons and Sundays free.
You will practise. You will teach. You will ask questions, make mistakes, receive feedback and grow in confidence. And somewhere along the way, you may begin to discover not only how to teach yoga, but how you want to teach it.
